J5ive is the work of Japheth Crawford (Jay), a motion designer and art director working across brand, product, and 3D. Over a decade of animating for technology and entertainment brands, as a hands on lead.

Most of my work for the last few years has been building motion systems: the guidelines, templates, and toolkits that let a brand move the same way no matter who animates it or what market they’re in.

Done right, a system takes care of the small decisions so more time can be spent on the bigger ones.

I started as a designer, so every piece begins with a frame that holds up on its own. Then I make it move, paying attention to timing and easing. That’s where motion either feels considered or feels like a default. Looking at you, easy-ease.
